Northland Weavers & Fiber Arts Guild
Welcome to the Northland Weavers & Fiber Arts Guild. We are a group of avid weavers and fiber artists living and creating in Northern Michigan. Our guild meets monthly and hosts a variety of fiber-related workshops to further our experience and enhance our creative knowledge in all of the fiber arts. We meet to share our work, inspire each other, learn a new skill or technique, and collaborate with like-minded fiber enthusiasts. Our members represent all areas of the fiber arts as we have weavers, spinners, knitters, dyers, felters to name just a few. So come join us. Learn a new skill and share your talents!

The Dot - April Guild Challenge
|
Our guild members really know how to step up to a challenge! Our amazing program director, Jenny, asked our members to create art inspired by the children's book, The Dot, authored by Peter H. Reynolds. The Dot is a heartwarming story of a young girl who, lacking confidence in her ability to draw, makes an angry mark (dot) on her paper. With continued encouragement, the young girl started to experiment with different colors and sizes of dots to create beautiful art. As she gains confidence she inspires others to take risks and to create. Members shared their dot inspired fiber arts creations at our April guild meeting. The variety of ways our members interpreted the book was simply amazing! Here are just a few of the items shared.

Featured Projects: Donna's Grocery Store ToteWatching a video on recycling one day, our talented guild member, Donna, was concerned with the way in which standard grocery store plastic bags were being recycled. This put in motion a creative mission to help contribute to a solution. Donna watched several tutorials on processing the plastic bags for weaving and came up with her own creative design for these totes using "plarn" (yes, that plastic + yarn). Donna's bags use 8/4 cotton as the weft, which she purchased through Ability Weavers, sett at 15 ends per inch. Donna will have her loom set up for weaving the totes from January to April in her beautiful studio overlooking Lake Michigan. She has opened her studio to guild members wishing to weave a tote as she provides guidance along the way. You will leave Donna's studio with a completed tote ready to take to the grocery store on your way home! Plan 4 hours to complete the project. Contact Donna if you'd like to schedule your session.
